Tarkett offers Olympic travellers a sportive departure to London
On July 23, it was the French Olympic Team on its way to the London Games who were the first to discover the relooked departure platform of the Paris – London Eurostar terminal.
The Tarkett team led by Jean-Claude Bernard, has installed a 53 m long (400 m2) compact vinyl floor on the Eurostar departure platform at Gare du Nord in Paris, creating an athletic track with 4 running lines, each of them leading directly into one of the 4 customs counters. Due to strict security measures and in order to avoid any inconvenience for the boarding passengers, the athletic track had to be installed in an overnight operation. In order to assure a perfect fit to the designated space, the entire installation was pre-cut, tailored and painted with track marks and Tarkett logos in advance at the Sedan factory.
On the day itself dignitaries from both Eurostar and the French Olympic committee, in the presence of a large number of French journalists both from TV and Press joined in to wish the departing Olympic team their farewell and plenty of success for the Games. The track installation will remain at the Eurostar Gare du Nord terminal all throughout the London Olympic and Paralympic Games and until early September. Over 600,000 travelers are expected to travel on Eurostar trains to London during this period and what better flooring surface could you image to run on, if you have to catch your train?
